Octel Communications Corp chairman Robert Cohn said that after losing focus over the past few years, the voice messaging systems company is looking to regain its fire in the belly and go after competitors while cutting costs. We just want (our products) to be better, cheaper, faster and smaller, Cohn said. Cohn, a founder of the company who returned as chairman last November, said Octel aims to fire up its employees, reduce time to market with new products and focus on lowering product cost. We haven’t done a cost reduction in 12 years, Cohn said: there is a tremendous potential to improve margins through cost reductions. He said he believes Octel employees are eager to go after the competition again and fight for more market share, adding that Octel still is the leader in voice processing systems with a 22% market share. The company also wants to boost its international sales, particularly in Europe and in Latin America.
