TOMCAT ADDS SOFT CHANNEL MODE TO ITS MACHINES

By CBR Staff Writer

Tomcat, the venture start-up that developed the dual IBM-NEC standard personal computer being sold by Proside Inc, has added a soft channel mode to its machines which also provides compatibility with Toshiba’s J3100 laptop: Tomcat previously developed its own architecture, called VSL for virtual system logic, which loads its own ROM BIOS into high-speed RAM; it then developed a J3100-compatible BIOS which is loaded from a floppy disk directly into RAM and it says the technique can be applied to other BIOSes as well, and the next target will be the IBM 5550.
