A close neighbor of Utah-based Timpanogas Research Group reports that the Novell Inc breakaway group is currently furnishing no disclosure agreements (NDAs) for anyone that wants to learn more about a supposed network operating system it’s concocting following a court-imposed nine-month ban on its clustering work (CI No 3,339). The neighbor, who privately believes some of Timpanogas’ reported claims are mythical and unlikely, told us he’d declined the NDA opportunity, but thinks Timpanogas could still beat a Novell clustering product to market figuring that for the Orem networking giant it’s like trying to turn a barge with paddle. After all why was Novell granted an order only restraining Timpanogas from continuing its Replevin clustering work for nine months? And if the clustering technology – formerly code-named Wolf Mountain over at Novell – was that why wasn’t Novell serious about it? Wasn’t that why Timpanogas was formed in the first place, because of the fear that Novell might not ever release it – or dumb it down – for fear of killing off NetWare?
