The Department of Defense is leasing the fiber optic connections from Time Warner Telecom to deliver high speed communications services, like voice, data and Internet access. Hickam AFB, Fort Shafter and Camp Smith are three of the six locations on the island of Oahu that will use the Time Warner Telecom networks.

The Defense Department contracts validate our ability to competitively deliver high-speed, highly secure and reliable communications services to the military, said Galen Haneda, general manager for Time Warner Telecom in Hawaii. We deliver these types of services every day to businesses and organizations that require high performance transmission of their critical information.

The 20-year lease contracts total $12 million, and were awarded by the Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization-Pacific (DITCO-PAC)/PL71 in Pearl Harbor.
