TOPAS, which has offices in the German cities of Dortmund and Mannheim, employs some 74 staff and reported sales in 2005 of 8.5m euros ($11m). The company specializes in providing services around SAP’s NetWeaver technology and, as well as its presence in the utilities sector, operates in the automotive, manufacturing, retail and telecoms verticals.

TOPAS will form part of TietoEnator’s Forest and Energy business unit, In the first half of 2006, the operation reported sales of 80m euros ($103.3m), flat on the same period of the previous year and 9% of the company’s total sales for the six-month period.

The acquisition is TietoEnator’s fourth so far this year, following earlier deals for RTS Networks, Telenor Business Consulting and Sofnetix. TOPAS is the first addition to TietoEnator’s energy business since it paid 6m euros ($7.7m) for construction group Tekla’s information systems for the energy industry in September 2004.
