For those keeping score in the 56kbps modem battle, Texas Instruments Inc says that to date it has shipped more than 13 million 56kbps chipsets, all of which contain 3Com/US Robotics’ x2 technology or are software upgradable to x2. The chipsets are found in both PC modems and installations at internet service providers. TI cites independent research that claims x2 products held 65% to 70% of North American retail shelf space in July.
