German steel and engineering group Thyssen AG yesterday sought to dismiss speculation it could put its mobile communications unit on the block, saying its stake in E-Plus Mobilfunk GmbH was not for sale, Reuter reports from Bonn. It was responding to a story in Focus saying that RWE AG has offered to buy Thyssen’s 30% stake in E-Plus for some $2.27bn. Thyssen is set to outline its new telecommunications strategy today; while confirming that talks with RWE and its partner Vebacom GmbH were still under way, Thyssen denied that RWE has made any offer for the cellular holding.
