3Com Corp is brandishing three recent industry reports that put it at the head of the remote access concentrator market, up to 15% ahead of its rivals. The reports, by the Dell’Oro Group, Dataquest and In-Stat, show 3Com widening its lead over Ascend Communications Inc and Cisco Systems Inc. Dell’Oro puts 3Com’s revenue market share at 40%, compared with second place Ascend’s 29% and Cisco’s 14.9% in the access concentrator sector. Dataquest shows 3Com’s share as 43.8%, with Ascend on 28.5% and Cisco 15.5%. In-Stat shows 3Com on 38.6%, Ascend 32% and Cisco 17.4%. 3Com say of the factors behind its growth has been the ability to upgrade to its faster, 56 Kbps x2 technology.
