As at the end of September, the three new telecommunications operators, Japan Telecom, Japan High-Speed Communications, and Daini Denden, indicated that while applications were being received in the anticipated volumes, the actual number of calls made has been lower than expected: the total number of susbcribers is 1.47m, with 389,000 of those being actual users of new lines, rather than lines sub-contracted from Nippon Telegraph; total usage per day for the three firms is 154,800 calls, 28.5% below forecast, generating daily revenues for the trio of $176,350.
