The chorus of concern is rising following Joe Guglielmi’s departure from Taligent Inc: now Computerworld hears that the investors, IBM Corp, Apple Computer Inc and Hewlett Packard Co, who are already in for some $100m in total, may pull the plug on further funding. Hewlett Packard is emphasising a three-pronged approach to objects in which Taligent is now just one option. No one seems to know whether Apple has a plan to use the technology, which leaves Taligent looking very much an IBM object shop. It was supposed to create a pervasive, cross system object framework to attract the independent software vendor community.
