Thorn EMI Computer Software and the Software Sciences arm of Thorn EMI Technology seem to sell more businesses than they do software these days, and the latest to go is the hotel systems division of Software Sciences, Thorn EMI Champs, to an investment group with wide experience in the data processing industry. The deal, which was due to be completed on Friday, takes the business into a group that includes Cedardata, a firm that has some 15 years’ experience selling back-office systems to the hotel and leisure industry. Software Sciences says that the divestiture is being made because the operation did not fit into its core businesses, which it says are growing at a rate of 25% a year. The company wants to concentrate on being the prime contractor on large turnkey system projects in the UK and abroad. Financial details were not given.
