Thorn EMI Plc has given up on its problematic UKP300m-a-year Ferguson television manufacturing business and yesterday said it was selling the unit lock, stock and tubes to Thomson Grand Public, the consumer electronics end of the French state electrical giant, for UKP90m: the announcement, which will increase Thomson’s sales by 20%; the news was good for a 17 pence bounce in the Thorn share price to 750 pence, and Inmos will be hoping that some of the cash will be coming its way.
