THORN EMI HOLDS OUT FOR HIGHER PRICE FOR STAKE IN INMOS

By CBR Staff Writer

The Independent yesterday picked up on our August 2 story that Thorn EMI Plc was holding out for a much higher price for a stake in Inmos International Plc than it was ready to take when the company was losing money (CI No 984), putting a figure of perhaps UKP200m on Thorn’s valuation of the company: it also floats the suggestion that second sources are being sought on the continent for the Transputer, and suggests sales this year of $130m to $140m – we heard suggestions of as much as $150m, but that would be pushing it a bit; another healthy sign is that according to the Independent, split of business is now 56% US, 31% Eur-ope and 13% Asia, against 74% US, 24% Europe and 2% in Asia in 1986.
