THORN EMI COMMENTS ON RECORD GROUP INTERIMS

Commenting on record group interims – pre-tax profit up 57% at UKP95.2m (see Company Results p5) – Thorn EMI chief executive Colin Southgate revealed that Inmos has been profitable since January, orders for the Transputer have more than doubled, while there was also an increased contribution from memory chips; he said Software Sciences enjoyed 34% organic growth and following last July’s acquisition of financial software firms in West Germany and the US (CI No 977), plus its first financial services contract in Japan must now be considered a global organisation.
