THORN EMI AND GOLDMAN SACHS LOOKING TO INVEST IN JAPANESE COMPANIES

Thorn EMI Plc and its agent Goldman Sachs Co are actively canvassing in Tokyo for Japanese companies to invest in, or even buy outright, Inmos International Ltd, reports our Tokyo correspondent: Thorn is touting Inmos’ return to profitability following the semiconductor slump, and its strength in home-grown products – and the Transputer, are mentioned as well as the fact that an investment in Inmos would provide a means for Japanese firms to side-step trade barriers.
