THOMSON, SGS AGREE TERMS

The French and Italian governments have now given formal approval to the long-gestating proposed merger of Thomson SA’s semiconductor operations with SGS Microelettronica SpA of Milan, Italy. The merger will create a company equally owned by Thomson and the Italian state, that will be second in Europe, 12th in the world, doing $800m a year.
