THE WORLD DOESN’T NEED ANOTHER INTEL SERVER SAYS CANEPA

Sun Microsystems Inc workgroup server boss Mark Canepa said the company evaluated the possibility of using Intel Corp technology for its low-end Tasmo servers (CI No 3,226) but rejected it on cost and differentiation in favor of the company’s own Sparc RISC. Canepa said the world doesn’t need just another Intel server, and explained that even if it could have created a cheaper box than its rivals, development costs would have been high.
