Potential Eastern European customers that have approached Tandem Computers Inc with a view to using its systems in projects such as the computerisation of the Hungarian Stock Exchange, have been met with some degree of hesitancy from the Cupertino, California-based transaction processing and fault-tolerant systems specialist. According to vice-president of sales Jack Chapman, the NonStop minimaker doesn’t want to notch up just a few sales behind what used to be called the Iron Curtain, without having a complete strategy for the region. This tentativeness is apparently less marked in dealings with the Soviet Union, however: Tandem consultant David Mackie will be going back to Moscow this month to follow up some leads established from a recent trip to that country.
