The US General Services Administration Board of Contract Appeals has ordered the US Navy to award a potential $500m contract to Government Technology Services Inc after the company protested at the Navy’s original decision to award the contract to Zenith Data Systems: the Board’s directive should put an end to the dispute which has been running since 1989; the Standard Desktop Companion contract is one of the largest awarded to Technology Services and a serious loss to Zenith which says it will understand if the Navy chooses to accept the ruling, although it will offer support if it decides to appeal; the Board of Contract Appeals says that the Navy had no rational basis for not making the award to the Chantilly, Virginia-based reseller.
