THE US FCC TO SWITCH TO UK SYSTEM OF REGULATING TELEPHONE CHARGES

By CBR Staff Writer

The US Federal Communications Commission voted three to zero in favour of a proposal to switch to the UK system of regulating telephone charges by reference to the annual rate of inflation even down to picking the same three percentage points below the inflation rate used in the UK: at present, the FCC limits the maximum profit phone companies may make on regulated services; the FCC suggests that phone companies should be allowed to choose whether to move to the price cap system or stick with the present one, their choice being binding for four years from next April, when it is proposed that the alternative system be introduced.
