THE UK DTI TO DEVLOP A ROBOT FARMHAND

The UK Department of Trade & Industry is inviting interested firms to apply for funds to develop a robot farmhand that could do some of the backbreaking work involved in anything from ploughing and harvesting to milking the cows – but we’re reminded by the agricultural aroma that has been floating over London for the past couple of weeks that they’d better give a miss to that Japanese robot afflicted with a sense of smell (CI No 923): the poor thing would likely pass out if it were asked to muck out the pigs.
