Use of the word Spam in the internet world has sparked the debate: is it an acronym? Arguments rage, both in the meat industry and on the Internet newsgroups. The original word may or may not have been derived from a contraction of spiced ham, or maybe even stood for Specially Processed Army Meat or (unappetizingly) Super Pink Artificial Meat.
