The advert, which is costing the car maker GBP8,000 per second, will be shown during the half-time break, and will feature cars floating above various London landmarks, including Trafalgar Square and Tower Bridge.

The short film, which promotes its new Ford Mondeo model, offers ideas on how to get rid of your old car, and uses life-size model, helium-filled balloons.

The advert, entitled Desire, will be shown in 21 European countries, reaching an estimated audience of 80 million people.
