THE SKIES THE LIMIT

It’s difficult to believe that they are insured for it, but if they are, it sounds like another giant headache for Lloyd’s of London: Philippe Kahn of Borland International Inc and Ed Esber of Creative Labs Inc are among some 50 software industry executives that have signed up to fly Marchetti SF 260 aircraft over the Las Vegas desert this Sunday – and participate in simulated dogfights as a prelude to the battles on the Comdex/Fall trade show floor: the thing is staged by Air Combat Inc and is being arranged for Comdex by Softbank Inc; bullets are laser beams, and verisimilitude extends to smoke coming out of a plane that is hit; participants do not need a pilot’s licence or previous flying experience, as they go up with an experienced pilot, but on balance, we think we’ll sit this one out…
