Responding to the influx of cheap cordless telephones from Taiwan and South Korea, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications will review its technical standards for cordless phones, relaxing the specifications so that Japanese manufacturers will be able to sell phones for as little as $76 – but, as reported (CI No 868), Matsushita Electric Industrial has been rushing around the discount stores buying up scores of export models reimported and offered at rock-bottom prices.
