So now you know – rules that limit interference into what consenting adults do in private do not extend to electronic bulletin boards – leastways not in Oklahoma: Jeff Jirka, a bulletin board system operator in Broken Arrow was arrested three weeks ago and his equipment confiscated after he was charged with obscenity for carrying sexual graphics files on his computer; Broken Arrow police sergeant Norman Stephens later held a meeting with Tulsa area system operators and told the Newsbytes newswire that Oklahoma’s obscenity statute prohibits pictures of what consenting adults (from the age of 11 years and up these days, it seems) get up to in private; Sergeant Stephens said the pictures on Jirka’s board went beyond what’s seen in magazines like Penthouse, and stated his intention to maintain and defend what he called Oklahoma’s status as a soft porn state.
