The three partners in the Jessi Joint European Semiconductor – or Sub-micron – Silicon project, Siemens AG, Philips NV and SGS Thomson Microelectronics SA – hope that their four governments West Germany, Netherlands, France and Italy – will come up with enough money that they can invest a total of $3,500m in the project to design and manufacture 16M-bit and 64M-bit memory chips in the next decade.
