APT Satellite Co, a joint venture of Chia Tai International Communications Co of Hong Kong and China Telecommunications Broadcast Satellite Corp, Ever-Victory Systems Co and China Yuan Wang (Group) Corp, all of the People’s Republic of China plans to invest $200m putting up two communications satellites that will cover the region from Mongolia and Vietnam in the north and Indonesia and the Philippines in the south, with slightly different footprints; the company plans to invest $200m and has ordered Apstar 1 from Hughes Aircraft Co with an option on the second satellite: the first will have 24 C-band transponders and four broadband transponders; it is due up in 1994.
