Sounds like the beginning of the end for the repressive regime in China – if a few loose cannons on the Internet can cause so many problems for Intel Corp, just think what 1,000m angry Chinese suddenly free to chatter safely among themselves could do: according to the Wall Street Journal, Asia now has more than 110,000 computers connected to the Internet, or 3.4% of the world-wide total, and China plans to connect as many as 250,000 computers in coming years – Either they don’t understand it and it’s all happening on the sly, or they fully understand it and appreciate that it’s a new world out there, says a Western executive familiar with the plan – I don’t see how they could possibly control data in or out of that network; the world has been waiting for the chance to flame Tiananmen Square’s butchers.
