The UK Department of Trade and Industry has issued draft proposals for its UKP29m three-year information technology joint research and development initiative under the newly formed Information Engineering Directorate which incorporates the Alvey Directorate and parts of the former Electronics Application Division; the proposals cover three main areas: Very Large Scale Integration and computer-aided design; systems architecture including parallel processing and distributed systems; and systems engineering with artificial intelligence.
