The Corporation for Open Systems, to which all the major computer and phone companies belong, has agreed to adopt the Bell Communicatiosn Reseaech Integrated Services Digital Network standard for transmitting speech and data over ordinary telephone lines: service is planned to start in the US by late 1992; Nynex Corp said it would cost subscribers $5 a month to convert a telephone line to ISDN and $8 a month to receive and transmit data, amounting to an increase of $13 a month over standard phone service.
