Matrix printers should be stone dead by now, but instead, they’re just getting cleverer and cleverer, and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co’s Panasonic Communications & Systems Co in Secaucus, New Jersey is to support scalable fonts using Adobe Systems Inc’s Adobe Type Manager for Windows on three of its 24-pin models, including a new one due to ship in April: according to Microbytes Daily, Adobe Type Manager and 13 fonts will be bundled with the printers; it is memory-resident software that enables users to scale Adobe typefaces to any size on the screen and the corresponding fonts are downloaded in rasterised form to the printer.
