The British government has signed its first exchange hire contract with ICL, the information systems subsidiary of STC: the UKP4m contract covers an order for two ICL Series 39 Level 80 mainframe computers and software, which will be used by the treasury at its Chessington computer centre mainly to process payrolls; the agreement means that government departments can exchange systems so that payments on their computer hardware can be tailored to match their budget profiles.
