THE BODY BEHIND THE SIGMA PROJECT DECIDES ON 40 COMPANIES

By CBR Staff Writer

The Information Technology Promotion Agency, the body behind the Sigma project, has decided on the 40 companies that will be responsible for monitoring in nominated technical fields – for example, 10 companies, including Nippon Univac and Nippon Steel will undertake monitoring in the Fortran field, while 15 companies including ABC and Sumitomo Metals will look after monitoring in the microcomputer field; major computer manufacturers such as Fujitsu Ltd and NEC Corp are participating voluntarily but the nominated companies will supply Sigma workstations and Sigma software development tools, and handle applications for direct data exchange line links to the Sigma centre for firms involved in testing.
