Thames Polytechnic has decided to gear up its automation with the installation of digital PABX equipment at six campus sites throughout south-east London: the order, worth an initial UKP339,000, has gone to Philips Business Systems, which beat eight other suppliers to the contract; current Telephones at the Poly’s sites are ageing, with some sites connected by tie lines while others are not linked at all and Philips’ Sopho-S will link the four current sites with two more in the future on one transparent network, with speech and data be integrated to the ISDN basic rate 2B+D standard so as to offer users a plethora of features including direct-dialling, camp-on and hold telephony features, with more data facilities being added in the future; the system is due to go live in November.
