Texas Instruments has sent its Performer software engineering program into full release. The program, a new class of visually- oriented rapid applications development software targeted at mid- size client-server installations, has been in pre-release since the summer (CI No 2,976). Performer sits between Texas’s high-end Composer applications development program for enterprises, and its Arranger desktop offering. It is claimed to combine the ease of visual development environments like Microsoft Corp’s Visual Basic and Borland International Inc’s Delphi with the type of power typical of enterprise-class offerings. The new product comes to market as Performer 1.1, due to the long pre-release, and is priced at $5,000 per seat. As an introductory offer, free copies of both Arranger and the TI WebCenter server to deploy Performer programs on the Web are included.
