Texas Instruments expands OMAP-DM5x family of coprocessors

Comes with 20MP imaging and 720p HD camcorder capabilities

By CBR Staff Writer

Texas Instruments has unveiled two new members of its OMAP-DM5x family of coprocessors. The company claims that the coprocessors deliver up to 20MP still imaging capabilities, and 720p HD camcorder functionality.

According to the company the new coprocessors accelerate imaging and video performance and provide manufacturers to upgrade the existing handset.

Texas Instruments said that the features and benefits of the OMAP-DM5x coprocessor family include 8MP performance, with 1.4 frames per second in high-quality mode and 2 frames per second in burst mode. The family also features integrated software to capture a series of shots, compensates for backlit and low-light environments and identifies, recognises and focuses on faces.

In addition, the new coprocessors features video noise filter to improve video quality, TV-out capabilities, pin compatibility between all devices, and works with a variety of mobile baseband and application processor systems, and any high-level or real-time operating system.

Products offered in this family include OMAP-DM515 with 12MP DVD quality to 720p, and OMAP-DM525 with 20MP DVD quality to 720p.
