Texas Instruments Inc accompanied news of a $409m loss for 1991 (see Company Results, page seven) with news that another 1,000 salaried and hourly jobs are to go from its already heavily pruned payroll, with computers and chips bearing the brunt. The new layoffs bring to 5,200 the total number of jobs it has cut since 1990, leaving a worldwide payroll of 62,000. The semiconductor division, based mostly in Dallas, Houston, Lubbock and Sherman, Texas, will lose 430 of the 1,000 jobs, while the information technology division will lose 225 jobs, 40 in the Dallas area, and 325 are to go here in Europe.
