This acquisition further strengthens Terra Lycos’ position in the Latin American Internet market by widening its range of e-commerce products and services.

Decompras.com, the leading e-commerce company in Mexico and Latin America, had sales of nearly $7 million last year. The company currently offers a wide range of consumer and corporate products such as electronic equipment, technological products, household electrical appliances, computers, toys, perfumes, CDs and DVDs, among others.

This operation brings together Decompras’leadership in the e-commerce market and Terra Lycos’ growing audience of Internet users in Mexico, said Arturo Galván, country manager of Terra Lycos in Mexico. Decompras will complement the strategic alliances we have already created with leading traditional Mexican retailers such as Ingram Micro, Famsa, Marke, Audiomundo, Victorinox, Mix up, Central de Discos and Distribuidora Juguetrón.

With these alliances, we can offer users competitive prices on various products as our business model does not include storage or inventory handling, which significantly reduces operating costs and allows us to transfer these savings to our users, Added Galvan.

Terra Lycos has implemented a new design in Decompras.com, which includes an online order search function and a search engine that operates on a product, brand name or price range basis, providing users with various tools to make online shopping easier, faster and more fun. In addition, experts will provide personalized attention and online advice for customers regarding the various products based on the customer’s purchase specifications and payment methods.

Recently, Terra Lycos announced an agreement with Visa to join the Visa’s E-Commerce Secure Transaction Platform in Latin America in order to meet consumer’s security requirements.

Decompras.com received the e-commerce category iBest Award 2001 at the second iBest México awards ceremony (Internet awards), voted first both by Internet users and the panel of experts. At the same ceremony, Terra Lycos Mexico won the most awards for the second year running, including Best Portal and Best ISP.
