Donning the IBM mantle and making it very clear that optical disk drives have to be taken very seriously now, Teradata Corp, Los Angeles, has an agreement with with FileTek Inc and made a statement of direction that it plans to deliver and support optical storage as an integrated option with its DBC/1012 Data Base Computer system. With optical disks the DBC will be able to manage and access up to 2Pb – that’s Petabytes or thousands of Tb, Terabytes. Teradata and FileTek plan jointly to develop data management systems aimed at large companies.
