Teradata Corp, the Los Angeles company catching attentive eyes for its highly successful product the DBC/1012 relational database that is shaping up to steal IBM’s DB2 market (CI No 1,232), has recently reasserted its commitment to the Unisys OS1100 market. It has announced four new products in its Unisys OS1100 Interface range: Mapper Services, Cobol and C preprocessors, and System Utilities. All of which adds up to a range that extends the functionality of the interface, by enabling Unisys users to tap the DBC/1012’s processing power and storage capacity without having to do any extensive reprogramming. Mapper Services is an interface that provides Unisys Mapper users with the ability to use features from that applications generation language to access the data stored on the DBC. Furthermore, the same data can also be accessed by Unix and MS-DOS users as well as by users of IBM and DEC systems. The Cobol and C preprocessors provide an interface between applications and ANSI-standard Structured Query Language enabling application developers and users to access large relational databases. The Systems Utilities include such features as a high speed loading facility, system diagnostics and software load services. Teradata says it plans further enhancements to its Unisys product line to give further relational database functionality as well as links to other mainframes. The new products are out now; all Teradata products are marketed in the UK by Teradata Europe Ltd in Thames Ditton, Surrey.
