Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based Laser Communications Inc has introduced a new version of its Terabeam system which links remote local area networks via a laser beam: the Terabeam E/10F is similar to its existing Ethernet-bridging product except that the company has added a fibre optic link running between the local area network and the laser so the two can be further apart, and provided the ability to reconfigure the Ethernet device to work with Token Ring; $17,200 in the US, the switch from Ethernet to Token Ring costs another $500; the products are distributed in the UK by High-Wycombe, Buckinghamshire-based Datarange Communications Plc.
