Tera Microsystems Inc also announced five design wins for the 40MHz version of its microCORE chipset, its homegrown Sparc implementation. Three of the companies, Datech, Hyundai Electronics Co and Trigem Computers Inc, are familiar names already active in the Sparc clone business. The new names are Sparctrum Microsystems Inc and Vertos Ltd. How solid these wins are, however, remains to be seen. All five firms apparently were aiming to show working prototypes of a Tera Microsystems-based system at this year’s Comdex show, but for most of them the project is a dry run silicon test. LSI Logic Corp, Fujitsu Ltd and Cypress Semiconductor Corp are being evaluated as well.
