Telstra, an Australia-based telecommunications and information services provider, has launched new the new EnergyWise offering with Cisco, which will enable large organisations to measure and report their IT network’s energy usage.

The new offering is customised specifically for Australian organisations at the Telstra and Cisco Accelerated Engineering Laboratory in Melbourne.

Telstra executive director John Paitaridis said the EnergyWise service is good for the environment and good for business.

"Energy consumption is a concern for many large organisations and the EnergyWise service can provide details of how much energy a company’s IT networking equipment is using and costing the company," Paitaridis said.

"Organisations thinking about their carbon footprint can plan and operate IT networks in a cost effective and energy efficient way using the data from the EnergyWise service."

Telstra said that the new offering will provide monitoring and reporting service, in addition to functions such as the ability to remotely switch off lighting, photocopiers and computer monitors in the future.

The company said that the new EnergyWise service will be available in the coming months and works only with Cisco networking equipment.
