Tellabs Inc has made an offer to the shareholders of Shannon, Ireland-based Delta Communications Plc which, if accepted, would make the Irish firm a wholly owned subsidiary of Tellabs International Inc, its worldwide marketing divison. Intending to use the Irish site as its European headquarters, Lisle, Illinois based Tellabs also wants to manufacture a range of its products for the European market in Delta’s existing manufacturing facilities. Delta Communications’ managing director Pat Shanahan says he welcomes the injection of cash into his firm, and expects shareholders to accept the offer within four weeks. Delta Communications – which had a turnover of UKP4.1m in 1988 specialises in the design and manufacture of telecommunications signalling and network conversion systems; it employs 125. Terms of the offer have not been disclosed.
