Telkomsel goes from strength to strength with the help of SingTel

SingTel has purchased an additional stake in Telkomsel. The $429 million cash deal raises SingTel's holding of the company to 35%. PT Telkom, parent of Telkomsel, will also hand over the GSM1800 license from Telkom Mobile to Telkomsel as part of the agreement.

If all goes well with the Indosian telecoms regulator, Telkomsel will increase its GSM1800 spectrum to 22.5Mhz, additional to the 7.5Mhz of GSM900 it already has. The operator is the largest in Indonesia, holding a 50% share of the mobile market.

With SingTel behind it, the company is set to leave competitors trailing behind. Plans to roll out additional capacity should see the company grow as strong as a tiger.
