To enable reduce costs and cope with increasing data traffic

By CBR Staff Writer

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Indonesian service provider PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom),to undertake a major transformation of the latter’s backbone network.

Alcatel-Lucent said that by converging IP and optical networks, its offering will enable Telkom to cope with the increasing data traffic, simplify its network, and reduce costs while providing high efficiency and robustness.

Telkom will also manage operational and power consumption challenges resulting from traffic growth, by leveraging Alcatel-Lucent’s Converged Backbone Transformation offering.

Under the agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will supply 1830 Photonic Service Switch combined with its service router IP/MPLS platform with integrated tuneable dense wavelength division multiplexing interfaces for Telkom.

In addition, the company will provide Telkom with technical supervision and training across the offering.

Alcatel-Lucent North and South East Asia region head Alain Biston said that their integrated optics and IP offering gives Telkom a new architecture that will reduce its cost of reliably transporting high volumes of traffic while providing an efficient platform to launch and support new services.
