According to CNN, TeleTech is the first multinational company to take the opportunity from a new investment incentive plan launched by the South African Department of Trade & Industry, which has targeted the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry as a source of employment.
The company has begun construction in the Cape Town and expects its center to commence operations by end of 2007. The new center is expected to have 2,500 seats. The company employs more than 52,000 people across 90 delivery centers in 18 countries.
Africa’s future is in services and South Africa is a virtually untapped market for offshore BPO. We are attracted by the country’s excellent infrastructure, talented and growing labor pool, and the widespread use of English, commented Craig Reines, general manager of TeleTech Africa
In March 2007, Carphone Warehouse expanded its offshore contact centre at Johannesburg in South Africa taking the total seat count to 850 across Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban.
