TELEPHONE SERVICE BETWEEN UK, JAPAN WILL INIITIALLY BE ONE-WAY

By CBR Staff Writer

The telephone service between the UK and Japan agreed between Kokusai Denshin Denwa Co and Mercury Communications Ltd, which is due to start on May 5, will initially be one-way, carrying only calls initiated in the UK: once transmission quality has been proved, Japan-UK service will be added; the deal is KDD’s third with an independent after those with MCI Communications and US Sprint in 1986.
