Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire-based terminals and personal computer distributor Telemetrix Plc has acquired the communications business The Trend Group Ltd for UKP2.3m. Telemetrix, which is anxious to become a major international electronics group, has financed the acquisition itself, but has allowed the vendors of Trend to subscribe for nearly 5m ordinary shares in Telemetrix, and will assume a UKP4.3m loan made to Trend. The acquisition is being made to enable Telemetrix to move into the European data communications market which yielded a turnover just under UKP18m for Trend in the year to December 31 1988. Aside from data communications equipment, Trend offers services to private network operators, and is active in both the secure communications and the telecommunication test equip-ment markets. Telemetrix plans to develop and exploit these markets by acquisition and association, as well as further developing its data communications lines.
